Two orders, for two ladies, with two themes!

This last weekend I delivered two geat orders to a couple of friends. One wanted an American Football themed cake for her boyfriend's birthday and the other wanted 6 Lego themed cupcakes for her cousin. This was great fun to work with and allowed me to use a few new tools and tricks.

With this American Football cake, I made the ball itself out of rice krispie treats and marshmallow. If you haven't tried this technique yet, do it! It's great! With the ball being brown I decided I would use coco pops instead of regular rice krispies. I then covered it in homemade marshmallow fondant. This was the first time I ever tried this and I definitely have some work to do. But it all ended up pretty well!

I also got the chance to use my new cake layer cutter and fondant smoother both courtesy of 'Sweetly Does It'. This got me perfectly straight layers and sides on my cakes and I can only wonder why I didn't use them earlier!

And the result?

I tried to recrete the NFL logo as best I could, and the colour scheme is based on the Dallas Cowboys! The lego cupcakes were just so much fun to make, but I still have a lot of work to do on my typeface imitation! All the decorations are made from fondant and the cakes were kept in a cardboard box to keep from those decorations soaking up too much moisture.

Big orders on the horizon and I will keep you posted!
